A Short-term Educational Program with Airlangga University, Indonesia

From January 28 to February 5, 32 students and two faculty members from Airlangga University participated in a short-term educational program on the theme of disaster prevention held at Shizuoka University. Four staff members from the Universiti Technologi Malaysia also participated in this program.

During the program, the participants deepened their knowledge of disaster prevention in Japan and Shizuoka through attending disaster prevention lectures, visiting the Shizuoka Prefectural Earthquake Disaster Prevention Center, and participating in a Kamishibai (picture storytelling) workshop, volunteer activities and fieldnwork (surveys on disaster prevention). In addition, 11 students from Shizuoka University participated as TAs, and discussions and exchanges were conducted in English about the differences in disaster prevention between their own countries and others. The students from Airlangga University worked in small groups and gave presentations at the end of the program about the results they achieved and what they would like to apply in their home countries.
